Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 286 – Justice and Shalom
Shalom is never abstract. It never floats free from the real decisions we make. In Scripture, shalom is always braided with justice (mishpat) and righteousness (tsedaqah). You cannot have one without the other. Amos refuses to let us imagine peace without fairness, wholeness without integrity, worship without right relationships.
“Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream.” Amos 5:24
Justice and righteousness show up in supply chains, wages, contracts, hiring practices, partnerships, and the treatment of customers and competitors. In other words, shalom is shaped in the everyday choices.
“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” Isaiah 1:17
Justice is the narrow path, and as you work with justice, you will bless all around you.
Prayer
Lord, Teach us to pursue justice and righteousness in every decision we make.
Amen
