Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 236 – Sight Unseen
Last week we received a lovely bouquet of flowers from our friend Louise in the memory of Terri’s mom, Jill, who recently passed away.
“But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”Matthew 6:3-4
The flowers sit before me as I write this. They are beautiful: Gerber’s, daisies, baby’s breath, carnations, freesias and heather in shades of purple, pink, orange and white bounded by vibrant greens. Yet Louise will never see them.
Louise is blind.
Her selflessness makes the gift even more special.
Some of the work I now do in (Re)Generation – restoring souls, land, air and water so all can flourish – involves planting actual trees under whose shade I will never sit. I am content with that. I am content knowing that, perhaps, a Philip will find another Nathaniel under one of those very trees.
I pray peace upon you as you work selflessly for rewards that only the next generation will see.
Prayer
God, may I give quietly and may you bless abundantly.
Amen
