Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 282 – Filters

In a most enjoyable call with my friend and client, Darrell, he cautioned that I know what ‘filters’ I am viewing world events through. That made me pause.

“See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ. Colossians 2:8

Scripture is replete with warnings to evade capture by incomplete worldviews and reorienting ourselves to God’s perspective.

“You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self… and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God.”  Ephesians 4:22-24

Our worldview is meant to be Christ-centred, Spirit-led, and Kingdom-focused. The danger is that alternative filters—political, cultural, economic, or emotional—distort what we see. To “see the Kingdom,” we must continually allow the Spirit to renew our perception so that our vision aligns with God’s reign.

As you go about your business this week, please test your opinions and decisions through a God-centred filter.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

Prayer

Lord Jesus, clear my vision.
Renew my mind by Your Spirit so that I may see through Your eyes—
to discern truth, act justly, and seek first Your Kingdom in all I do.

Amen
