Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 274 – Create

I was listening to Diary of a CEO with Stephen Bartlett as he spoke with Dr. Deepak Chopra. Dr. Chopra talked about how we find our true self through creativity. In the quote below, he suggests the relationship flows both ways: our true self is also the source of creativity.

“The true self, once discovered, is the source of creativity, intelligence and personal growth.” Dr. Deepak Chopra

Dr. Chopra is close, but I would take this thought even further. As image bearers of God, our truest selves reflect the exuberant creativity of the Creator Himself. When we create, we are closest to our Creator.

“It is I (God) who made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts.” Isaiah 45:12 

One of the great joys of business is creating opportunity. God has given you creative gifts—even the very desire to create—so that you can use them alongside Him 

“And he has filled him [Bezalel] with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills— to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze.” Exodus 35:31–32 

God gave Bezalel this gift so he could make the tabernacle. I see the same gift reflected in my wife Terri as she designs and makes clothing. She and Bezalel are cut from the same cloth. You, too, have the unique, God-given skills, wisdom and knowledge to create something beautiful. I cannot wait to see what you will do.

God, thank you for the creative gifts You have given me. May I use them to your glory.
