Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 257 – The awefull partnership with Jesus
Bear with me on this, dear pilgrims, when I mean awe-full, I do not mean the current meaning of the word awful, as pertaining to bad or incompetent, but to the original Middle English meaning of aueful, commanding great respect or deference, worthy of reverence, awe-inspiring.
“The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.” Psalm 147:11
Having the Holy Trinity as your business partner is an awe-full experience. God calls us to excellence, even if simultaneously reconciling himself to us while we are yet sinners (Romans 5:8).
“’Sometimes I think that if there’s one person we Christians really can’t stomach, it’s Christ. He ruins everything!’ Paul Kingsnorth,
Checking in with Him each morning isn’t just a ritual; it’s a necessity. He holds us to a standard we could never meet on our own; that’s exactly the point. He wants to be our partner. I rely on the Holy Spirit’s quiet nudges—that inner conviction when I’m off course or facing a decision. I also fear the disappointed, quizzical look of Christ when I have erred or sinned. That look turns me around right now.
In the end, I do not know how people run businesses without God, the tough, fair, fiercely-loving business partner. I am glad you have Him by your side.
Prayer
God, may I revere you even as I accept your hugs. Thank you for walking with me, my God and Redeemer.
Amen
