Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 255 – Loving your enemies
Loving your enemies is one of the best business tactics there is.
“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Luke 6:27
Once more Jesus turns the world’s paradigms upside down. We have lots of ‘enemies’ in business – staff that betray our trust, clients that do not pay, unethical competition. These people can cause real harm. The key is to limit that damage to the original assault. Don’t let the original wound fester with the infection of anger, bitterness and resentment.
“Love can embrace the one who hates, the hater cannot hold on to the one who loves.” Iain McGilchrist
By embracing the enemy, you can release any hold they have on you. The offence no longer consumes you. Instead of being driven by hatred or seeking revenge, you can focus back on the business at hand, creating value, blessing your customer and strengthening your supply chain.
Prayer
God, help me to love and embrace my enemies. Release the shackles of anger so I can be free to serve You.
Amen
