Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 247 – Inner heat
Last week I wrote about Jesus’ light reflected off you all. This week I want to talk about the warmth you exude as you adventure with Christ. Perhaps because it was -30C earlier this week, we need this devotion to warm us up!
“There is an inner heat to the word Christian that we can’t be warmed by unless we risk the adventure”. Martin Shaw
Being an entrepreneur, particularly one who wants to do things ethically, is certainly an adventure. How do we keep the ‘fire in the belly’? I propose focussing on the ultimate goal: Jesus is restoring all things – our hearts, our neighbours, all creation, even the universe – to himself. He is making all things complete and perfect. And you along with your entrepreneurial vision are part of that partnership in the Good News.
As we launch The (Re)Generation Initiative, a movement to restore Barren Hearts and Barren Lands, I need to preach this gospel to myself. When starting something new or wading through the minutiae of executing a business plan, it is vital to remember we are making this world a better place in the name of Jesus.
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
Our fire for Christ isn’t self-sustained— it is fueled by the Holy Spirit, our daily walk with God, and our commitment to His mission. It needs prayer, fellowship, and accountability. Because God has already placed a vision within you, your work is an act of serving with purpose.
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” 2 Timothy 1:6
Prayer
Rock of Christ, thank you for the team you have given me as we ascend to your heights.
Amen
