Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 242 – Good fences
I have had great experiences in business and not so great experiences. One of the distinctions between these two trajectories is that when I had good experiences, expectations were clearly articulated and written down. Where I have had poor experiences, things were not transcribed.
“Fences make good neighbours, and good paperwork means good partners,” Marty
Writing things early in any business/partnership relationship is a good thing when emotions are high and all is fresh. Those words will be a firm basis for resolution later if things go awry.
“Write these down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:5
Having an agreement written down is good; regular review is even better. Do make sure there is a scheduled review of the key accords. That act reminds all the parties what you have agreed to and what needs changing.
Prayer
God, your Holy Word reminds us of our covenant with you, may we apply the same rigour with our partners.
Amen
