Muddle Christ – Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 222
Tim, a colleague of mine, was praying for me after a rich conversation. He prayed that I ‘model Christ’. I heard, ‘muddle Christ’. I am pretty good at muddling Christ.
“…and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.” Revelation 1:13-15
“For in (Jesus) all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”Colossians 1:19-20
“There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is sovereign over all, does not cry, “Mine!”” Abraham Kuyper
This the Jesus, the Son of Man of double-edged sword, the fulness of God, the great reconciler, the fulfillment of prophecy, the Messiah. The one who made peace by the blood of the Cross. Not someone to muddle with.
But oh to model Him in our business! There is the goal! To be able to sacrifice for others as He does, to discern as He does (through the gift of his Holy Spirit), to restore and to re-create as he does!
And our biggest supporter in this endeavour is this same omnipotent Christ who through grace never leaves our side in the intimate dance of our life and business.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, may I model you even when muddling through the day.
Amen
Mark
