Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 269 – The path you build
Terri and I just got back from a four day break at Nekinan Lodge and Victoria District National Historic Site, where we learned about the peoples that first forged a home in this land.
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness…” Isaiah 43:19
As we walked the prairie hills and on the Victoria Trail from Metis Crossing to Victoria Settlement, I thought about how the early ones had forged these trails: from First Nations footpaths, to canoe and York Boat on the North Saskatchewan, to Red River Carts on the Carlton Trail from Winnipeg to Edmonton, to steam boats, then railway and finally paved highways. All of them had to have had the trails opened up by pioneers. Pioneers like you.
“A voice of one calling: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord;
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.'” Isaiah 40:3
We often talk about choosing a path, but what if you are called to make your own one? The new path you are making may be digital, relational, physical, business or organization related.
We gleaned three truths about new paths during our trip:
- it will be difficult
- you will have earthly and heavenly help; we noticed the trails made with community were more sustainable
- you will bless others who follow you.
Whatever path you are making, may the centre line always be love of neighbour and of God.
Prayer
God, as I forge a new path, may I remember You and people of Good Will who are with me.
Amen
