Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 271 – Seed
Terri and I were speaking with our advisor and friend, Janet, praising God for those who have given their time, talent, and financial resources to help ReGen.Global flourish. Your generosity enables us to help others flourish spiritually, in restored social environments, and a replenished ecology.
Janet said that we had been given seed capital. The phrase struck me like a thunderbolt. Then, on Thursday, I went for a long walk with my friend Chip, a most generous contributor in many ways. He challenged me to get the seed out of the barn and leverage it to attract others who will then help others. Another jolt. These two friends make the best cattle prods.
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” 2 Corinthians 9:6
It got me thinking, what seed capital can you distribute to deserving people with great ideas? Not only seed funds, but germs of encouragement, kernels of technical help, acorns of advice? I find the best growth happens in the mixed ecology of these four species. What gift or resource can you get out of the shed to help others like I have been helped?
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows… Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:7–9
Your seed planted in the fields of opportunity will produce harvest. It will not grow mouldering in the barn. Continue to be generous.
“One person gives freely, yet gains even more… A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:24–25
Prayer
Dear God, help me cast seed well and liberally.
Amen
