Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 306 – The Work of Bees

We had (Western Rite) Easter last week, and as the Easter Candle was lit at the Easter Vigil, we heard these words:

“On this, your night of grace, O holy Father,
accept this candle, a solemn offering,
the work of bees and of your servants’ hands,
an evening sacrifice of praise,
this gift from your most holy Church.” The Exulset[MP1]

“The work of bees.” It is a small phrase that carries a profound truth.

Well before you started your initiative, God had already assembled the resources before the creation of the universe that you would need. The wax of the candle, the work of bees, the physical resources, and even the laws of biology, chemistry, and physics that make your work… work.

God has already provided.

And the work you are doing continues into eternal significance. It is easy to be stuck in the now—in the pressure, the deadlines, the uncertainty. The truth is, your work is part of a seamless, eternal plan.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:10

What an extraordinary thought.

Everything you need to accomplish the work God has given you—ultimately for His glory—is already known, already prepared, and already within His provision.

It is not that you must create everything from nothing. It is that you are invited to assemble what God has already supplied. He’s even given you the Allen wrench.

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” — 2 Corinthians 9:8

The provision is not scarce. The plan is not fragile. And your work is not accidental. The same God who prepared the wax through the quiet work of bees has prepared what you need.

Trust Him. And keep building.

Prayer

Lord,
Thank You that You are a God of provision.
Before I knew my need, You had already made a way.
Help me to trust that what You have called me to do, You have also equipped me to accomplish.
Give me eyes to see what You have already provided, and wisdom to assemble it well..

Amen
