Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 278 – The radical light that you are

I stand at the edge of a sepulchre where nearly 250,000 people are buried. I was at the Kigali Genocide Memorial. My colleague asks the guide, “Are you Hutu or Tutsi?” She replies, “We do not use those terms anymore. We are Rwandan.” In that moment, she shone light into a dark place; she practiced ‘Kwibuka’, the act of remembering and building the peace of Rwanda.

“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. … In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”  Matthew 5:14–16.

I thank God for you. In this world intoxicated by fear and hate, you step in. You apply the naloxone of Love to stop the overdose. You wash, dress, bind hurts, and give food to this broken world so it can recover its wounded beauty.

(You are) some small act of spiritual resistance in the face of madness. Martin Shaw

You are a radical, in the true sense of the word, one who goes to the root. You seek the Face of God the creator, putting on the sash of salvation through Jesus and waving the banner of wisdom that is the Holy Spirit. You stand on the hill as Light above the Vale of Darkness that is the world.

For it is the God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6 (vis. Isaiah 60:1–2)

I can see the Light from where you stand. It gives me strength. Thank you.

Carry on.

Prayer

God, may you give me strength to hold up the Light of Love.

Amen
