Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 270 – Water

I had an accident when I was twelve, leaving one leg significantly shorter than the other, and a knee that—well—isn’t much of a knee at all. It’s more gristle and pins and screws than bone and muscle. These facts made it difficult to excel in demanding terrestrial sports.

But once I was in water, things changed. It did not matter how short my leg was, how wonky the knee; there was no pressure on leg and hip and I could excel in all things aquatic, especially competitive swimming.

Water made me equal.

“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7:37-39

In thinking of your business or organisation, where can you be water? How can you  create an environment where someone with challenges can express their extraordinary gifts?

“For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Revelation 7:17

I believe Jesus, the Living Water, is like that. When we immerse ourselves in him, we flourish.

Prayer

God, thanks for being the deep that calls out to deep. Help me create the environment in which all can succeed.

Amen
