Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 259 – Hanging by your toes
Last weekend Terri and I had the distinct joy of watching two of our granddaughters in a dance recital.
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Our eldest granddaughter performed an acrobatic dance routine that included hanging from a ring ten feet above the ground – by one foot. I held my breath, prayed, and only exhaled when her routine was over. (By the way, she nailed it!).
“The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.” Luke 6:40
Once I could breathe again, I reflected that, like the dance director, we all work to get our employees to the level of discipline and accomplishment that my granddaughter showed. We train them to be safe, to hone their craft, to pursue excellence. Then we let them go to execute their work, while we continue to support then in prayer and presence.
Some of my staff have gone on to accomplish things I never could—mastering their own specialties and surpassing their teacher. That’s not a loss; it’s a legacy. A worthy return on investment.
Prayer
God, bless my staff. May they reflect you, Jesus, the Divine Teacher.
Amen
