Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 250 – The bible and the hoe
Greetings from Zimbabwe on my last day here. I am well. The work here is a perfect blend of theology, science, practical teaching and hands-on farming. It feels great to be covered in dirt and washed in the Word.
“We are sending our students with a bible in one hand and a hoe in the other” Taty, DRC
Taty is a fellow student here and runs a seminary in the Congo. He perseveres there In spite of the civil war. Taty is passionate about sending his pastors out with the ability to deeply disciple and to raise their own funds through agriculture. This is the same model we are developing in Central Asia. The lessons our central Asian colleagues are getting here will be immediately put into practice when we get back.
This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Jeremiah 29: 4,5,7
You are a spiritual being and your company is a spiritual enterprise, even as it is physical work and a vocation. The spiritual and practical go hand in hand in a holy dance.
Prayer
God, may I seek the prosperity of the area where I live, with a hoe in one hand and a bible in the other.
Amen
