Devotions for a Busy Business Person, no. 230 – Immediately

Recently, the experience of quickly delivering a project reminded me of the power of acting immediately—of seizing the moment to get things done as soon as the opportunity arises.

Going on from there, (Jesus) saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them,  and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him. Matthew 4:21-22

I’m currently putting together an application for an environmental approval on a new environmental technology facility here in Canada. This type of application is complex, and typically takes over a year to complete. But this time, we’re on track to finish within two months.

I was thinking as to why this application is going so very quickly, and I believe one key reason is my client responds almost immediately to my information requests, usually within one day.

There is time when thoughtfulness is important, especially when a decision may put you on a new path; but when you are sure of the way forward, act!

Supply chains don’t wait. If you delay your response to them, suppliers move on to other tasks, which means they waste time remobilising for your project when you eventually respond. Many of you work in areas with fragile supply chains, where missing an opportunity can result in even greater costs in time, money, and quality.

As often is the case, I am preaching the gospel to myself here. I’ve juggled too many balls at times, losing focus. If it’s your “marble” I dropped, I apologise. I am determined to get better as I reflect on the gift of an effective and prompt response.

I hope this advice has been a blessing. Now, if you will excuse me, I have an application to get out the door… immediately.

Prayer

God, when you call, may we respond immediately.

Amen1
